Q: I just purchased a Florentine black bedroom furniture set for my master bedroom. I am happy with it and thinking about using gray, white and black in the bedroom.
My problem is I already have black leather couches for my living room. There is a beige carpet throughout the whole apartment. I'm just wondering what other colors are suggested to go in my living room if
I have a black leather sofa and loveseat. I wanted to do something vivid and alive in the living room, especially because I live in Florida. Is it too late, as I already have the black leather couches?
A: Not to worry. With a little design sense, a little money, and a good eye, it's never too late to redecorate.
Because you're in Florida, you may be drawn to more "Floridian" colors, such as pinks, pale greens, and turquoise or other blues. And any of these - or a combination - could work with the black leather furniture.
Whatever other color you choose, start by thinking of the sofas as your base, off of which you'll play the other colors. Whatever you pair with black will create a striking look; it's just a matter of choosing the color that best reflects your taste and creating a pleasing bedroom interior design.
Consider the wall color carefully. You could go for a look in which the beige of the carpet predominates, and paint the walls a slightly darker beige that verges on brown. Then, add accent pieces in various shades of brown. This could create a sophisticated look, especially if you use high-end linens and cottons.
If you choose the beige-brown-black combination for your bedroom, consider also the fabrics for the accents. A few throw pillows in a rough linen, or in heavy unfinished cotton, silk-screened with African designs, will give more depth to the room.
With this palette as your backdrop, you can add in a few splashes of color, which will really call attention to themselves. Choose a line-up of red glass vases, or add just two bright green throw pillows.
However, you may want to go with something more colorful, as the bedroom will also feature the black furniture. You could paint the walls a bright Floridian color, and add accents that reflect and complement that color. This will give the room a decidedly more casual look than the beige and brown scheme.
In the bedroom, you could use fabrics in a toile design. One way to bring color in would be to use a black and white toile for a chair seat, and a bed skirt in the same pattern but in red and white. The red and white will work nicely with the black bedroom furniture. Add red and white curtains in the same pattern, and then offset these with a wide red and white stripe somewhere in the room.
If, by the time the black bedroom furniture is installed, you feel overwhelmed by the black, you could undercut it by just going with a blue and white toile in the bedroom, which would go nicely with the Florentine look of the furniture.

1. For best wood furniture painting results, the proper temperature should be maintained in the room. If you stripped your wood furniture, make sure that you apply an acrylic primer before applying any oil-based gloss, eggshell, or any color of acrylic paint.
2. Paint your furniture in a shade that is in contrast with the wall's color. This way, you can define the furniture and the wall. You should also consider where the furniture is located. If you want, you can paint the furniture found in your bedroom with the color that suits your personal style; while the furniture found in other parts of the house can be painted in other subtle colors.
3. Some people prefer eggshell finish because the gloss finish can have a deadening effect. While you're painting, always do it in small sections. Lap marks can be avoided if you keep wet edges.
4. If you want, you can also incorporate effects like broken color into your wood furniture. It is highly recommended that paints which are oil-based are best for wood furniture.
5. To add more color to your wood furniture, you can stain it because this allows the furniture's natural grain patterns to show through.
6. After staining your furniture, you can apply varnish so that the furniture can have a tough coat. Varnishes are available in satin and high gloss finishes.
7. If you have leftover paints, combine those that have identical color in one can and then close it tightly. Keep it for later use.

In the old days they always built some sort of porch or awning over the entrances, and the doors had some protection from full sun and driving rain. We have better products today so many builders skip those costly little details. I mention this because it's something to keep in mind... if you ever do some minor remodeling around the front door area, you might be able to make a good-looking awning or porch roof that protects the door, provides a bit of shelter from the rain (the primary benefit) and adds some value to your house. But the main issue is providing protection for your steel door. The type of paint you use depends on what type of paint is already on the door. Most people paint their doors with latex paint, but some of us do it the hard way and use oil-based paint, such as simple spray cans (tricky because of the overspray) or a quart can of oil-based paint like Rust-Oleum. The problem is this: Latex paint can go over oil-based paints or older latex paint, but oil-based paint CANNOT go over latex paint, normally. Oil paints will eventually crack like an alligator's skin when applied over latex, because they expand and contract differently with temperature changes. So the short answer is: You can use latex paint with no worries. But which latex paint? All exterior latex paints are meant to be placed in full sun, and they will all fade over time with sun exposure. Some colors fade worse than others. (I think I read that yellow fades the worst, but my memory isn't so great anymore.) The key is buying a high-quality acrylic latex house and trim paint. Cheap paint isn't worth the savings! You'll only need a quart to do a door. Even better... get a 100% acrylic paint. It's my understanding that the acrylic polymer is one of the most sunlight-resistant polymers available, so the more the merrier. The other issue is gloss level. Flat paint hides defects better than shinier paints, but flat paints tend to form a chalky surface (which can leave streaks). Shinier paints tend to be much easier to clean, and since doors get touched all the time, flat paint will let the fingerprints and grime be absorbed into the paint. Personally, I use satin or semi-gloss paints for doors and door trim. Make sure you do the right surface preparations, at least a good cleaning, rinsing, drying, and scuff sanding. I prefer to paint the door on saw horses... the paint is less likely to run or sag, and you can get a heavier coating.

Exclusively painting by a Elephants

Elephants have been taught to paint by the Russian émigré artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid 1 in part as a way to provide a living for elephants put out of work by the closing of the local timber industries and in part as a sophisticated and amusing art world project.

The elephants paint by gripping the brush with their trunk.  A picture of Ramona painting is shown in Figure 1.

Ramona was born in Way Kambas National Park in South Sumatra on February 27, 1995. Her mother Karsih was an entertainer there, giving elephant rides and performing simple circus tricks for tourists. Her father was a wild bull elephant, whose name and whereabouts are unknown … Ramona began her painting career in 1999 under the guidance of renowned New York-based artists Vitaly Komar & Alexander Melamid. Within two days, Ramona was deep in concentration, confidently applying paint to canvas … (from the Novica website 2 ).

Ramona’s paintings have been sold at Christie’s auction house in New York.  Elephants’ paintings currently for sale are shown at the Novica website 2, which is associated with National Geographic.  The paintings sell for hundreds of dollars.  The Asian Elephant Art and Conservation Project website 3 also shows many paintings by elephant artists.  On perusing the paintings for sale I was struck by the painting in Figure 2.

This is the very painting shown in process in the photograph in Figure 1.  The painting seems to me to be a drawing of an elephant in profile looking to the right, just the way Ramona is facing in the photograph.  The elephant’s trunk is in red and extends down to the bottom right of the painting.  To the left of the trunk are an eye and mouth in purple.  In the left center of the painting is the elephant’s large ear, also in purple.
