As a business affiliate of, Welded construction, L.P. has become one of the largest mainline contractors in the United States. Our domestic work has taken us from Washington to Massachusetts and from New York to Louisiana, accumulating over 40,000 inch-miles of installation since 1988. Welded Construction has grown from a welding subcontractor nearly 50 years ago into a highly respected mainline contractor capable of handling large projects up to 48" in diameter.

Pipeline Design

Spectra Energy employs a variety of techniques and perspectives when developing the most efficient and environmentally friendly pipeline routes.

The goal of any new pipeline project is to make connections—from major natural gas supply basins to communities that need the natural gas to power and heat homes and businesses. To do so, Spectra Energy looks for the most efficient, environmentally friendly routes by examining proposed routes from a variety of perspectives.

Big Picture

To gain a big picture overview of the proposed route, we employ high-tech satellite imagery and aerial photographs. We take care to avoid environmentally sensitive regions and areas of large population and take advantage of existing infrastructure, like transmission rights of way and interstates and highways.

Grass Roots

We also examine proposed routes at the local level. Spectra Energy engineers walk the route to gain an understanding of the topography and natural growth. We carefully select pipe sizes and coatings based on environmental conditions to ensure the safety and integrity of the pipeline.

Community Input

One of the most important steps in pipeline design is gathering input from the community. In community meetings, we discuss with local leaders and landowners their interests and concerns, and coordinate with local, state and federal agencies to identify sensitive areas, such as wetlands and historical and cultural sites.

Through these techniques, Spectra Energy is able to develop pipeline routes that minimize impact on the environment and communities.

Pipeline Engineering

Pipeline Engineering provides pipeline pigs and a full range of products and services to assist pipeline cleaning, pipeline protection and flow assurance in the Oil, Gas and other process industries.
The range of pipeline pigs available from Pipeline Engineering is comprehensive and includes foam pigs, mandrel pigs, solid polyurethane pigs, spheres and special cleaning pigs. Technical and engineering expertise means that we are able to offer a range of cleaning pigs that can be constructed in such a way that every pig is engineered to meet the specific requirements of a pipeline as opposed to simply being the nearest fit.
As well as pipeline pigs, Pipeline Engineering also manufactures pig signallers, pipeline closures, pig launchers, pig receivers and a range of pressure vessel products. Pipeline Engineering is recognised for its expertise in polyurethane technology, which means that as well as pipeline pigging products and spare parts for pigs, we also produce other polyurethane based products such as bend restrictors, bend limiters track pads and filtration screens.

Working with gas pipe is not much different from working with metal water lines. Depending on the application, the gas pipe may be thick walled with threaded ends, or thin walled with flared ends. Perhaps the most difficult part of pipe fitting is learning to make the bends in pipes, and many home enthusiasts have found that using flexible pipe or tubing is a logical way to save time and frustration.

Make sure that you have a basic set of hand tools available. This set would include fastening tools such as screwdrivers and a hammer. It would also include such tools as a tape measure and even one as simple as a pencil. Depending on the precision of the mounting, you may also need to employ tools such as a framing square or carpenter's level.
Many types of gas pipe fitting are manufactured to fit the maw of a wrench. Having at least one quality crescent wrench enables you to quickly adjust the wrench you are using for the next larger or smaller size of fitting without searching for the next wrench in the set.

  If you are dealing with thick-walled, threaded gas pipe, tightening the joints may require the use of more torque and specially designed gripping jaws. The jaws of a pipe wrench are intended to grip in one direction only and must be reversed to turn the pipe in the other direction. The advantage of this design is that increased torque can be applied when tightening.
